Cultural Background
Sanxingdui (三星堆, ‘Three Star Mounds’) in Guanghan, Sichuan, is China’s most mysterious Bronze Age site: a 3,000+ year old civilization (c. 1200 BCE) discovered in 1986 whose artifacts rewrote Chinese history. Its towering bronze masks with protruding eyes, gold-veneered faces, and alien-like standing figures belong to no known dynasty — the ancient Shu kingdom made bronzes unlike anything else on Earth, and why they buried them in sacrificial pits remains one of archaeology’s great enigmas.
Function & Features
One of the most photographed Sanxingdui finds: bronze head overlaid with a gold-leaf face mask (the originals used real gold leaf on bronze). This replica captures the uncanny serenity of the Shu nobility.
Main Uses
Gallery-grade statement piece; pairs with the protruding-eyes mask
Where You’ll Use It
